Fabric Guide for Men: Cotton vs Linen vs Synthetic in Bangladesh
Bangladesh's hot and humid climate makes fabric choice more than just a style decision — it's a comfort decision. Here's everything you need to know about choosing the right fabric for your clothes.

Why Fabric Choice Is Critical in Bangladesh
With temperatures regularly exceeding 35°C and high humidity levels across Bangladesh — especially in Dhaka — the fabric your clothing is made from directly affects how comfortable, fresh, and sharp you look throughout the day. Choosing the wrong fabric means sweating through meetings, feeling sticky by midday, and constantly adjusting your outfit.
Cotton: The All-Round Champion
Cotton is the most widely used fabric in men's clothing worldwide — and for very good reasons. In Bangladesh's climate, cotton is an excellent choice for most occasions and seasons.
Benefits of cotton:
- Highly breathable — allows air circulation to keep you cool
- Moisture-absorbing — wicks sweat away from the skin
- Soft against the skin — comfortable for all-day wear
- Durable and easy to wash
- Available in a wide variety of weights and weaves
Best for: T-shirts, casual shirts, everyday panjabis, and chinos.
Watch out for: 100% cotton can wrinkle easily. Look for cotton-blend options for better wrinkle resistance in formal wear.

Linen: The King of Summer Fabrics
If cotton is the all-rounder, linen is the specialist for hot weather. Made from flax plant fibres, linen is significantly more breathable than cotton and has a natural texture that only improves with age.
Benefits of linen:
- Up to 30% more breathable than cotton
- Naturally moisture-wicking and quick-drying
- Gets softer and more comfortable with every wash
- Natural texture adds effortless style without effort
- Eco-friendly and sustainable
Best for: Summer shirts, casual Friday office wear, weekend outings, beach or holiday wear, and linen trousers for warm weather.
Watch out for: Linen wrinkles easily — this is considered part of its natural character, but if you prefer a crisp look, always iron before wearing.
Our linen shirts and linen trousers are among our most popular categories for summer wear.
Oxford Cloth: Smart Casual Favourite
Oxford cloth is a type of woven cotton fabric with a distinctive basket weave texture. It's heavier than regular cotton but still breathable, making it ideal for smart casual and business casual wear. Oxford shirts are a staple of polished everyday dressing — smart enough for the office, casual enough for weekends.
Synthetic Fabrics (Polyester, Nylon, Rayon)
Synthetic fabrics are increasingly common in affordable clothing but should generally be avoided in Bangladesh's climate for non-athletic wear.
Downsides of synthetics in hot weather:
- Trap heat rather than releasing it
- Do not absorb moisture effectively — leads to sweating and discomfort
- Can feel clingy and uncomfortable in high humidity
- May develop odour more quickly than natural fibres
Exception: High-performance synthetic fabrics (moisture-wicking polyester used in sportswear) are designed specifically for athletic activity and sweat management. These are fine for exercise and sports but not ideal for everyday or formal wear.
Fabric Care Tips for Bangladesh's Climate
- Wash cotton and linen in cool or lukewarm water to prevent shrinkage
- Hang to dry rather than tumble dry where possible — extends fabric life
- Store cotton and linen in breathable wardrobes away from direct humidity
- Iron linen while slightly damp for the best results
- Use fabric softener sparingly on cotton — too much reduces breathability
Our Fabric Recommendation by Season
March–September (Hot & Monsoon): Linen and lightweight cotton — our linen shirts are perfect for this period.
October–February (Cooler Season): Oxford cotton, slightly heavier cotton blends, and wool-cotton blends for the coolest months — our Oxford shirts and formal shirts are ideal choices.
